29th-30th September

29th September —————— Mawnan Smith - cloudy and it was quantity over quality today, overhead migrants included; 103 Meadow Pipit, 102 Linnet, 5 Pied Wagtail, 3 Grey Wagtail, and 2 Greenfinch, and less likely to be migrants were 4 Goldfinch, 1 Starling, 1 Black-headed Gull and 1 Collared Dove. Also recorded from the obs were singles of Sparrowhawk, Hummingbird Hawkmoth, and Green Woodpecker. 30th September —————— Mawnan Smith - no time for fieldwork today but I happened to note overhead; 46 Siskin, 16 Linnet, and 4 Greenfinch, joined by non-migrant fly-by’s with 5 Black-headed Gull, and singles of Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, and a woodpecker sp.

28th September —————— Mawnan Smith - overhead passage was a bit less busy this morning, but produced a couple goodies and a noticeable increase of Linnet movement, totals included - 1 Osprey , 58 Linnet, 33 Meadow Pipit, 1 Tree Pipit , 12 Pied Wagtail, 3 Swallow, 2 Greenfinch, and 10 Canada Geese. Also recorded from the obs; 1 Skylark, 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Tawny Owl, and 1 Hummingbird Hawkmoth Maenporth - 3 Meadow Pipit and 5 Cormorant overhead, 2 Buzzard hunting, 1 Jay and 3+ Long-tailed Tit in the trees, and on the lagoon a high count of 30+ Canada Geese, plus singles of Mediterranean Gull and Little Egret. 27th September

27th September —————— Mawnan Smith - some minor overhead passage with 5 Siskin, 9 Meadow Pipit, 3 Linnet, 7 Greenfinch, and 4 Grey Wagtail. Additionally seen were 2 Buzzard, 2 Collared Dove, 2 Blackbird, and 2 Dunnock. Rosemullion Head - totals from the sea were; 15 Manx Shearwater, 1 Sooty Shearwater , 4 Great Skua , 1 Arctic Skua , 600+ Gannet, 3 Guillemot, 17 auk sp, 50+ Mediterranean Gull (2 juveniles), 35+ Black-headed Gull, 7 Great Black-backed Gull, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 150+ Herring Gull, 30 Kittiwake, 7 Cormorant, and 2 Shag. Additionally 113 Oystercatcher and 12 Curlew flew past the headland, moving southward down the coast, 2 Stonechat and 5 Linnet were on the headland, and 1 Firecrest was calling in Mawnan Church. 26th September

26th September —————— Mawnan Smith - overhead passage between 7:20-8:00 AM included; 1 Chough , 105 Meadow Pipit, 76 Woodpigeon, 4 Grey Wagtail, 2 Pied Wagtail, 39 Linnet, 12 Greenfinch, and 13 Goldfinch. Recording Area Additions 71.  Chough

23rd-24th September

23rd September —————— Mawnan Smith - Although cloudy at 7 AM it cleared by 8, allowing for a good amount of passage. Overhead birds included; 113+ Meadow Pipit, 10 Pied Wagtail, 1 Crossbill , 6 Grey Wagtail, 1 Snipe , 5 House Martin, 14 Swallow, 25 Linnet, 11 Goldfinch, 19 Greenfinch, 1 Chaffinch, 1 Coal Tit, 1 Black-headed Gull, and 2 Starling .  Also of note in the garden were singles of Firecrest and Chiffchaff. Snipe 24th September —————— Mawnan Smith - overhead passage had less interest than yesterday, but a solid count of pipits, totals included; 384 Meadow Pipit,  29 Linnet,  5 Siskin, 20 Greenfinch, 2 Grey Wagtail, 5 Pied Wagtail, 4 House Martin, 1 Swallow, and 3 Grey Heron. 20th-22nd September

20th September —————— Mawnan Smith - 6 Swallow, 4 House Martin, 2  Canada Goose over, and singles of Collared Dove, Dunnock, Goldcrest, and Buzzard. Plus a Clouded Yellow and Buff-tailed Bumblebee in the garden. Rosemullion Head - limited migrants with 1 Firecrest, 1 Chiffchaff, 25+ mixed hirundines, 1 Clouded Yellow, and 3 Rush Veneer. Additionally of note were 3 Oystercatcher, 2 Stonechat, c15 Linnet, 2 Meadow Pipit, 2 Skylark, 2 Song Thrush, and singles of Grey Wagtail, Pied Wagtail, and Coal Tit. Coal Tit 22nd September —————— Mawnan Smith - thick fog prevented almost all overhead passage, barring a group of 4 Pied Wagtails that were closely followed by a House Martin, and 1 Meadow Pipit. 15th September 2026 —————— Mawnan Smith - A minimum count of 152 Herring Gulls flew north to roost at dusk, however I am yet to watch the whole process. 17th September 2026 —————— Mawnan Smith - 2 Tawny Owl and 1 Buzzard. 18th September 2026 —————— Mawnan Smith - 1 House Martin over, 2 Stonechat, 1 Dunnock, 1 Pied Wagtail, 20+ House Sparrow, 1 Tawny Owl, and 450+ Herring Gull on the dusk roost flight. 19th September 2026 —————— Mawnan Smith - some brief overhead passage with 2 House Martin, 3 Meadow Pipit, and 1 Grey Wagtail. Maenporth - 1 Mediterranean Gull, 2 Stonechat, 1 Grey Wagtail, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Little Egret, 2 Firecrest, 2 Goldcrest, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Pheasant, 1 Jay, 2 Greenfinch, 10+ Long-tailed Tit with 2 Chiffchaff, and the usual numbers of waterfowl and gulls, with the exception of a high count of 4 Canada Geese. 1 3th September 2026 —————— Mawnan Smith - 6 House Martin, 5 Swallow, and singles of Grey Wagtail, Pied Wagtail, and Black-headed Gull overhead, plus 1 Collared Dove, 2 Stock Dove, 14 House Sparrow, 4 Jay, 1 Mallard, 1 Moorhen, 2 Greenfinch, 4 Chiffchaff, 4 Firecrest, 2 Goldcrest, and 1 Clouded Yellow. Helford Passage - 2 Shag, 9+ Oystercatcher, 3 Little Egret, 2 Mute Swan, and singles of Common Gull , Black-headed Gull, Grey Wagtail, and Siskin. 11th-12th September

11th September 2026 —————— Mawnan Smith - Overhead passage was limited with 10 Swallow, 7 House Martin, and 2 Meadow Pipit the extent of it. Other birds of note - 3 Linnet, 6 Black-headed Gull, 9 Feral Pigeon, and 1 Jay Maenporth - 30+ Black-headed Gull and a few Herring Gull on the beach at low tide, birds on the marsh included 24 Mallard (2 domestic type), 1 juvenile Moorhen, 3 Canada Goose, and 1 Kingfisher. There were 2 Raven overhead and a group of Long-tailed Tit in the scrub 12th September 2026 —————— Very limited coverage today as I was further afield birding in Cornwall. 9th-10th September

9th September 2026 —————— Mawnan Smith - Overhead passage included 35 House Martin, 25 Swallow, 1 Swift, 16 Linnet, 2 Meadow Pipit, 1 Tree Pipit, 15 Pied Wagtail, and 1 Stock Dove, with a tailless Chiffchaff as the lone grounded migrant, being very confiding in the buddleia. Other birds of note - 2 Raven, and singles of Collared Dove, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Sparrowhawk, and Chaffinch. 10th September 2026 —————— Mawnan Smith - A pair of Tawny Owls calling in the early morning, 28 Swallow, 29 House Martin, a flock of 10+ Jackdaw, and singles of Sparrowhawk, Collared Dove, Great Tit, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Buzzard, Chiffchaff, Goldcrest, Firecrest, and Grey Wagtail. Rosemullion Head - An adult Sabine’s Gull through south at 7:10 was a complete shock, considering the calm conditions! Also over the sea were 3 Kittiwake, 70+ Gannet, 10 Great Black-backed Gull, 8 Black-headed Gull, 2 Curlew, 35+ Oystercatcher, and singles of Mediterranean Gull and Whimbrel.
